Hello friends,
After more than a decade of living aboard and sailing around parts of the beautiful coastline of South Africa, one thing has become incredibly clear to me: thriving at sea starts from within.

Life on a boat is magical — the sunsets, the freedom, the dolphins that pop by just when you need a lift. The whales (that still scare the crap out of me if they venture too close). But it also comes with its own unique challenges. The weather, the constant motion, the never-ending list of “little jobs,” the limited space… and let’s not forget the occasional bout of chaos when something breaks at the exact wrong moment!
Through all of this, I’ve learned that our mental and physical well-being matter just as much as our navigation skills and safety gear. Gratitude, kindness, a strong mind, and a healthy body aren’t luxuries for liveaboards — they’re essentials. They keep us steady when life gets rolly (on and off the boat), and they help us appreciate this beautifully simple life we’ve chosen.

As full-time liveaboards, we’re often so busy managing the practical side of life afloat that we forget to check in with ourselves. Some days fly by, and before we know it, we’ve forgotten to stretch, breathe deeply, or take a moment to be grateful for this wild and wonderful life we’ve chosen.
