ABOUT US – MEET THE SAILORS!

Captain Mike (Swiss) and Nikki (South African). We are full-time liveaboards on our 43-foot Bruce Roberts Mauritius ketch, currently in Cape Town, SA. Mike is also known as “Captain Underpants,” which is quite self-explanatory when you see our blog posts and pics!!

A quick bit of background. I met Michael in 2015 when my late husband, Rijnardt, and I upgraded from our little “Flammie” to a Bruce Roberts, Mauritius ketch we found in Port Owen, South Africa. Sadly, after only 15 months of marriage, Rijnardt was diagnosed with cancer, and 3 short months later, I was alone with a 43-foot yacht I didn’t know what to do with. Michael, who had been a good friend to us and owned his own yacht in Port Owen, offered to help teach me how to sail it, and then I could make an informed decision about whether I would keep it or not. That was a tough time in my life, really tough.

Well, I fell in love! First with sailing and the liveaboard lifestyle, and then a few years later, with the man! We were married in 2022. Michael sold his boat and bought mine, and we are full-time liveaboards, a magical (but bloody hard at times) lifestyle.

We have recently returned from a 6-month stint as flotilla lead crew in Greece, not for the fainthearted, especially if you are over 60! Exhausting and exhilarating at the same time. I will go into detail about our adventures under the heading “GREECE”.

We hope you enjoy journeying with us through our unusual, adventurous, and often chaotic lives!

Captain Underpants and Pirate Wench.

Cape Town, South Africa (for now).
